This course is great if you are:

  • keen to hear different perspectives about mental health

  • interested in how ideas about mental health have changed over time

  • want to explore how to support and sit with different views of mental health

  • curious about the impact of language in mental health

 

Is there a RIGHT way to think about mental health?

What might we think in the future looking back?

How do you support people when you don’t agree with their views?

What shapes how we all understand mental health?

 

In this course, we take a step back to look at the big picture – what is mental health and what are the ways we can think about it? We’ll dive into language – its importance, impact and how it shapes people’s views around mental health. We’re going to explore different lived and professional perspectives to think about what challenges and shapes our own ideas on mental health. We’re also going to look at how mental health has changed over time and even think about what it might look like in the future.

  • Learning objectives:

    - understand that words related to mental health can mean different things to different people
    - recognise that there are different ways of understanding mental health and wellbeing
    -consider how ideas about mental health can change across time
